A Deputy Sheriff will inspect your window and door locks, which entitles you to a 5% discount. There is no fee this service is free.
The
Citizens Police Academy
CPA was Started in Oct 26 1995 and the HCSOCPAAA was established in 1996.
The CPA provides training in law enforcement functions and responsibilities
to citizens. Many of our CPA graduates continue
to work with the department in other programs in their communities.
An Advanced Citizens Police Academy was initiated in 1998 to provide
further training to graduates of the basic class.

D.A.R.E.
(Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
It is a program that teaches children not only to refuse illicit
drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, but also how to avoid gangs and
violence. The program stresses decision-making skills and
resistance techniques through inter-active participation.
KOPS (Kids Orientation to Police
Services)
Provides an informational/educational interface opportunity
for children aged 8-11. We believe that inculcating an awareness
of public service and civic duty at this impressionable age
will provide the foundation for responsible citizenship and
stronger communities in the years to come. This program has
graduated 400 children since its inception in 1997, with 48
of those graduating in 1999. KOPS has been formally recognized
as a national model for the establishment of similar programs
around the country by the VFW.
Motorist Assistance
Program
The Motorist Assistance Program is designed to assist stranded
motorists on all Harris County area freeways. It shall be
the responsibility of the Deputies assigned to the Motorist
Assistance Program to offer courteous and professional assistance
to all stranded motorist.
Neighborhood
Watch Program
Neighborhood Crime Watch is a program of mutual assistance
amond neighbors aimed at reducing crime in the community at
the grass roots level. It invloves getting to know one's neighbors
and introducing them to the concept of Neighborhood Crime
Wtach - that is good neighbors working together, alter to the
potential of crime, and willing to look out for one another's
interests.
Parks
R.A.D.
(Rape Aggression Defense)
Teaches women to protect themselves from sexual assault and
physical violence. With 29 certified instructors, the Sheriff?s
Department has the largest RAD program of any law enforcement
agency in the country. We trained 770 women in 1999, and expect
to train more than 1,000 women in 2000 as this immensely popular
program continues to grow.

Interaction Group (SIG)
SIG meetings are conducted regularly in each patrol district.
These meetings allow citizens to meet with Sheriff?s Department
management to voice concerns, air complaints, and ask questions.
SIG makes the department aware of these concerns and provides
an opportunity to address them before they become problems.
