Motorist Assistance Program

Mission Statement

The Motorist Assistance Program is designed to assist stranded motorists on all Harris County area freeways. It shall be the responsibility of the Deputies assigned to the Motorist Assistance Program to offer courteous and professional assistance to all stranded motorist.

Assistance Offered By M.A.P:
  • Assistance in changing a flat tire.
  • Supply fuel, water and air.
  • Assist with minor engine repair.
  • Jump start vehicles with dead batteries.
  • Provide traffic control at major and minor accidents.
  • Remove stranded vehicles from the roadway by use of the push Bumper or by summoning a tow truck.
  • Provide use of mobile phone to notify relatives, employer or summon additional help.
  • Provide courtesy transport of stranded motorist to a safe location.
  • Render first aid and summon medical assistance in emergency situations.

ALL OF THESE SERVICES ARE OFFERED AT NO COST TO THE MOTORIST!

What To Do If You Breakdown

  1. Remain calm.

  2. Stay with your vehicle if possible. Do not get out of your in the middle of freeway traffic.

  3. Pull off the freeway (if possible).

  4. Be aware of your surrounding traffic conditions.

  5. If you have a cellular phone (Cingular Wireless) call *627(free call) for assistance or 713-CALL MAP (713-225-5627).

  6. Display distress signal (flashers, sign or white cloth).

  7. Do not attempt to change a flat tire in a moving lane of traffic. It's better to ruin a tire and rim than be struck by another vehicle.
