The Auto Theft Task Force
was created in March of 1993 through grant funds from the
Texas Automobile Theft Prevention Authority. The Sheriff's
Auto Theft Task Force is charged with investigating all vehicle
theft that occur in the unincorporated areas of Harris County.
In addition the Task Force regulates and enforces salvage
laws, educates the public in auto theft prevention, and conducts
insurance fraud investigations related to vehicle theft. It
also conducts operations to disrupt and dismantle "auto
theft rings", and other organized crime groups.
