Sheriff's Academy General Information
The Harris County Sheriff's Academy has developed this site to provide area Criminal Justice Agencies with a schedule of Basic and Advanced training courses. This schedule is designed to allow ample time for agencies interested in enrolling and sending personnel to a course. Updates are made often, so please check back.
The Harris County Sheriff's Academy is certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education and abides by its rules. Training certificates are provided to all students who satisfactorily complete Academy courses, and all training is reported to TCLEOSE. Certain courses require prerequisites (as indicated in the course descriptions) which must be met prior to acceptance for admission.
The Academy charges a nominal fee for individuals sponsored by agencies not funded by Harris County:
Basic Law Enforcement - $550.00
Advanced Training Classes - $1.00 per contact hour with a minimum charge of $10.00 per course
The fee must be paid on the first day of class by cash, cashiers check, agency check or money order made payable to "HARRIS COUNTY". We cannot accept personal checks.
Some courses taught by outside vendors require an additional fee. This fee applies to all students, and should be paid according to the instructions listed in the course description.
Application for enrollment of the Basic Peace Officer or Basic County Corrections courses must be made in writing. You may call the Academy to receive an application. Applications are processed on a "first-come, first-served" basis and will be acknowledged at the telephone number listed on the application; however, the Academy reserves the right to make enrollment adjustments in order to accommodate as many law enforcement agencies in Harris County as possible. The Academy reserves the right to make schedule changes for reasons beyond our control.
